Your Donation Makes a Difference
The Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County was founded in 2011, to provide shelter and care for mistreated or abandoned horses and other animals. We provide shelter, food, and veterinary services for these animals until a suitable home can be found. As secondary services, we provide free educational and therapeutic programs to local schools and charities with and about these animals.
It’s a fantastic way to understand the scale of what we do here at Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County.
While numbers shift with intakes and adoptions, here’s our average daily headcount:
🐴 Equines (horses & donkeys): 12–16 before Covid the average was 20 to 30
🐱 Barn Cats: 30–40
🐓 Birds (chickens, ducks, turkeys): Around 50
🐐 Other Large Farm Animals (goats, pigs, cows, etc.): 10–15
🐰 Small Animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.): 10–15
We’ve rescued 1,179 animals so far and found loving homes for 892 of them. 💕
Behind each number is a life saved—and that’s what keeps us going.
If you'd like to help us continue caring for all these animals, please consider making a donation today. Every dollar truly makes a difference in their lives. 🐾

...But now that I’m here, I see just how much it takes to keep this place going. So many mouths to feed—horses, donkeys, goats, cows, and chickens—and so many costs: Hay, Grain, Shavings, Farrier visits, Vet bills.
Right now, the biggest need is hay. A full hay barn means full bellies, warm bedding, and peace of mind.
Our goal is to fill the barn with 4,000 small bales of hay for the year. That’s $28,000 total—just $7 per bale—but to a rescue, that number is huge.
$7 = 1 bale of hay
$35 = 5 bales = enough to feed us all for one am or pm feeding
$210 = 30 bales = 3 days of feed for all of us
$700 = 100 bales = a huge step closer to our goal...

Abandoned Horses in Need of Rescue

The unpredictable weather both the warm months and the cold are making it hard on horse owners everywhere. There are horses being abandoned all over the Midwest. When those animals have nowhere else to go, we can rescue them. Your help can buy them the food and medical care they need to make a full recovery.
