This is Samson checking in for Straight from the Rescues’ Mouths. Wow is all I can say about this month! Here is a quick review if you have missed our weekly updates.
First, we celebrated Kiss’s 15th birthday and Jessica, the facility director here at Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County, made a wonderful Molasses Apple Oat cake for all of us to share.
Second, made the cats and peafowl very happy! A company donated enough cat and dog food to last us a couple months!
Third, Athena asked if she could give the Straight from the Rescues’ Mouths update about our Hay Crisis, we are in. Starting this month, we only had enough hay to possible feed all of us at IHRWC till the middle of this month. Jessica sent out a letter and started a GOFUNDME to beg for help in our time of NEED. I was speechless with all your generosity! There are no words to say how THANKFUL we all are for your help.
Fourth, we thought we had hay being held for us but sadly they sold it. We had an extremely hard time finding hay for $6 a bale and not $8. Tony, the founder/ president of IHRWC, drove over 2 hours away to get nice grass/alfalfa mix hay for $6 a bale. This week Tony has done lots of traveling to get hay. He made two trips down south and then we found some grass hay locally. We have spent $3,000. on hay this week alone. At this point we have enough hay to make it to the middle to end of April. We would not have been able to do that without all the generous people who have donated.
Our GoFundMe Fundraiser is still running please think about donating to help our fundraiser. https://www.gofundme.com/emergencyhaycrisis Okay going to go eat this tasty hay that a volunteer (Debbie) just gave me. Check back next week to see what's new with Straight from the Rescues' Mouths.
